Halil's Football Journey
Starting Out in Germany
Halil Altıntop began his professional football career at a local German club called Wattenscheid 09. He played there alongside his twin brother, Hamit. Their great performances caught the eye of bigger clubs.
In 2003, Halil moved to 1. FC Kaiserslautern. His brother, Hamit, joined Schalke 04 around the same time. Halil was a fantastic striker for Kaiserslautern. In the 2005–06 season, he scored 20 goals, making him one of the top scorers in the Bundesliga, which is Germany's top football league.
Playing for Schalke 04 and Eintracht Frankfurt
After his successful season, Halil joined his brother at Schalke 04 in 2006. He moved there for free, which means no transfer fee was paid. However, after just one season, his brother Hamit left Schalke to join Bayern Munich. Halil stayed at Schalke until January 2010, when he moved to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Moving to Turkey and Back to Germany
After Eintracht Frankfurt was moved down to a lower league in the 2010–11 season, Halil Altıntop decided to play in Turkey. He signed a three-year contract with Trabzonspor, a Turkish team.
In the summer of 2013, Halil returned to Germany to play for FC Augsburg. He played many games for them, appearing in 116 matches in the Bundesliga. He scored 20 goals and helped set up 12 others during his time there. After the 2016–17 season, he decided not to renew his contract with Augsburg.
Short Stays and Retirement
In June 2017, Halil moved to SK Slavia Prague in the Czech First League. He played there for a short time before returning to 1. FC Kaiserslautern in January 2018. He signed a contract until 2019, but in June 2018, he decided to end his contract and announced his retirement from playing football.
