Haltern am See is a charming town in Germany. Its name means "Haltern at the lake." Before December 2001, the town was simply called Haltern.
This town is located in the Recklinghausen Rural District. It is part of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Haltern am See sits right next to the Lippe River. It is also very close to the Wesel-Datteln Canal. The town is about 15 kilometers (9 miles) north of the city of Recklinghausen.
