Hammarö Municipality (which in Swedish is Hammarö kommun) is a special area in Värmland County, located in west-central Sweden. It's like a small local government area. The main town where the local government meets is called Skoghall.
This municipality was first created in 1863. It has stayed the same size ever since. Hammarö is one of Sweden's smallest municipalities. It covers only about 57 square kilometers of land. It is also the smallest municipality in all of Värmland County.

Geography of Hammarö
Hammarö Municipality is mostly made up of islands. The two main islands are called Hammarön and Vidön. There are also many smaller islands around them. The name Hammarö comes from the word hammare. This word describes a rocky area where many deciduous trees grow.
The island of Hammarön itself is quite large, about 47 square kilometers. It is the third biggest island in Lake Vänern. Lake Vänern is a very big lake in Sweden. Hammarön is located just off the coast of Värmland. It is separated from the mainland by the Klarälven river delta. A river delta is where a river splits into many smaller streams before flowing into a larger body of water.
From the town of Skoghall, it is only about 7 kilometers to the city of Karlstad. Karlstad Municipality is the only other municipality that has bridges connecting to Hammarö.

Most people in Hammarö live in one large urban area. This area is officially called Skoghall by Statistics Sweden. However, this urban area has two different postal zones. The western part is called Skoghall, and the eastern part is called Hammarö. People often use the name Skoghall for the western part, not for the whole urban area.
Skoghall City Center
Skoghall City Center is a busy area in Skoghall. It is a place where people go to shop and have fun. You can find many stores and places for leisure activities here. It's a central spot for both people who live in Hammarö and visitors.
Economy and Jobs
A long time ago, about 100 years ago, most jobs in Hammarö were related to fishing. But things have changed a lot since then!
Today, the biggest employer is a company called Stora Enso Skoghall. This company makes cardboard boxes. It employs about 950 people. The second largest employer is Akzo Nobel Base Chemicals. This company makes chemical products and has about 150 employees.

Hammarö Municipality has a growing population. In 2022, there were 16,749 people living here. About 12,337 of these people were Swedish citizens old enough to vote.
The people in Hammarö come from different backgrounds. Most residents were born in Sweden with Swedish parents. However, a small percentage of residents have a foreign background, meaning they were born abroad or have two foreign-born parents.
People in Hammarö earn different amounts of money. The average monthly income for adults in 2022 was around 29,000 to 36,000 Swedish kronor. Many adults in Hammarö also have a university degree, showing a good level of education in the area.
