Hammarstrand is a small town in Sweden. It's the main town in Ragunda Municipality, located in Jämtland County. About 1,052 people lived here in 2010.

Hammarstrand is famous for its bobsleigh and luge track. It also has a unique history. The town was built on the dry bed of a former lake called Ragundasjön. This lake suddenly drained in a big event in 1796!

The Exciting Bobsleigh and Luge Track

Hammarstrand is home to a special track for bobsleigh and luge. These are winter sports where athletes slide down an icy track on sleds. This track was built in 1964. It was 1,045 meters long and had 11 curves. The starting point was 900 meters high!

For a long time, until 1992, this was the only track of its kind in all of Scandinavia. It was used until 2001.
