Hampton is a small, unincorporated community in Deschutes County, Oregon, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place with a shared identity but no local government of its own.
Hampton is located about 60 miles (97 km) southeast of Bend. You can find it right on U.S. Route 20, which is a major highway. The community sits on the edge of Oregon's High Desert region. It is also known as Hampton Station.
A Look Back at Hampton's History
Hampton got its name from the nearby Hampton Buttes. These buttes were named after Joe Hampton. He moved to this area from Eugene, Oregon, in the 1870s.
The Hampton post office first opened in 1911. It closed in 1953, though it had been closed once before that. In 1940, Hampton had a population of 41 people.
As of 2003, Hampton, also known as Hampton Station, had a gas station and a restaurant. By 2010, the gas station had closed down. However, it was confirmed to be open again as of October 22, 2020.

In the 21st century, Hampton is a stop on the Eastern POINT bus line. This is an intercity bus service that connects different cities. The Eastern POINT line travels between Bend and Ontario. The bus makes one stop in Hampton each day, going in both directions.
