Han Han (Chinese: 韩寒; pinyin: Hán Hán; born September 23, 1982) is a famous Chinese writer, professional rally car driver, singer, and filmmaker. He is also known for creating the print magazine Party and the online magazine One. In May 2010, Time magazine included Han Han on its list of the 100 most influential people. Later that year, The New Statesman ranked him among the world's 50 most influential figures.

Early Life and Education

Han Han's first essay, Unhappy Days, was published when he was in junior high school. He got into Shanghai's Song Jiang No. 2 High School because of his sports skills. In 1999, during his first year of high school, Han Han won first prize in China's New Concept Writing Competition. His winning essay was called Seeing Ourselves in a Cup.

School Challenges and Public Debate

After his first year, Han Han failed seven subjects in his exams. This meant he had to repeat the year. This event was widely reported in the news and started a big discussion in China. People debated about the country's "quality education" policy and whether schools should focus on all-around learning or specialized skills. Han Han later left school after failing seven more subjects in his second year of senior high school.
