Hanover is a small community in Wisconsin, United States. It is known as an unincorporated census-designated place. This means it's an area that the government counts for population numbers, but it doesn't have its own city government. Hanover is located in the town of Plymouth, which is part of Rock County. You can find it west of Janesville and east of Orfordville.
History of Hanover
Hanover was not always called by its current name. When it was first settled, the community was known as Bass Creek. The name was changed to Hanover in 1859. This new name came from Hanover, Germany. Many of the first people who settled in this area were from Germany.
A post office was first opened in Bass Creek in 1856. When the name changed to Hanover, the post office also changed its name in 1859. The Hanover post office served the community for many years before it finally closed in 2014.
