Harmonia facts for kids
Harmonia (pronounced Har-MOH-nee-ah) is the goddess of harmony and agreement in Greek mythology. She is the daughter of Ares, the god of war, and Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Harmonia is the opposite of Eris, who is the goddess of arguments and disagreement. Her Roman name is Concordia.
Who is Harmonia?
Harmonia represents peace and good feelings between people. She helps things work well together, like different parts of a song or different people in a group. She is often seen as a symbol of unity and understanding.
Her Family
Harmonia's parents are Ares and Aphrodite. This is interesting because Ares is about fighting, and Aphrodite is about love. Their daughter, Harmonia, brings these two ideas together into balance.
Harmonia married a hero named Kadmos. He was the founder and first king of the city of Thebes in Greece. Together, they had several children:
- Ino
- Polydorus
- Autonoe
- Agaue
- Semele
The Necklace of Harmonia
Harmonia is famous for a special necklace she received as a wedding gift. This necklace was made by Hephaestus, the god of blacksmiths. It was incredibly beautiful and brought bad luck to anyone who owned it after Harmonia. Many stories in Greek mythology involve this necklace causing trouble for its owners.
