Harold Blevins was born on October 19, 1943. He is a former American professional basketball player and coach. He is known for his amazing scoring skills in college.
Harold Blevins played basketball for four years at Arkansas AM&N Golden Lions. He was one of the best scorers the team ever had. He was chosen three times as an All-American by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). He was also selected three times for the All-Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) team.

Harold Blevins' Playing Career
Drafted by the Knicks
In 1965, Harold Blevins was picked by the New York Knicks in the 1965 NBA draft. He was the 14th player chosen overall. This made him the first player from the Golden Lions team to be drafted into the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Playing for the Trenton Colonials
Even though he was drafted by the NBA, Harold Blevins did not play in the NBA. He also signed with the Dallas Cowboys in the National Football League (NFL) that same year, even though he didn't play football in college. He ended up playing for the Trenton Colonials. This team was part of the Eastern Professional Basketball League (EPBL) during the 1965–66 season.
Military Service
In 1966, Harold Blevins joined the United States Army. He served for two years in Vietnam.
Harold Blevins' Coaching Career
Coaching Junior Colleges
After returning from his time in Vietnam, Harold Blevins became a head basketball coach. He coached for two different junior colleges. This included coaching both the men's and women's teams at Harford Community College.
Coaching the Golden Lions
In 1995, Harold Blevins became the head coach for the Golden Lions men's basketball team. He coached the team for seven seasons. His record as coach was 36 wins and 147 losses. He finished his coaching role there on July 16, 2002.
Honors and Awards
Harold Blevins has received several special honors for his basketball career.
- In 2004, he was added to the Arkansas–Pine Bluff Golden Lions Hall of Fame.
- In 2005, he was inducted into the SWAC Hall of Fame.
- In 2016, the Golden Lions team retired his No. 50 jersey. This means no other player on the team will wear that number again.
