Harold Glenn Dunaway (born October 7, 1933 – died September 3, 2012) was an American race car driver. He raced both stock cars and sprint cars. He even competed in one NASCAR Grand National Series race.

About Harold Dunaway

Harold grew up in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. His father, Glenn Dunaway, was also a race car driver.

Harold served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He had many hobbies outside of racing. He was a certified private pilot, meaning he could fly planes. He was also a scuba diver, exploring underwater worlds.

Harold was married to Frances. Together, they had two children.

Harold's Racing Career

Harold Dunaway was well-known as a dirt track racer in North Carolina. Dirt track racing is a type of auto racing held on oval tracks made of dirt or clay.

He competed in one NASCAR Grand National Series race in 1966. This race took place at North Carolina Motor Speedway. Harold drove a Plymouth car. He finished 40th out of 44 cars in that race.

Later, Harold moved on to sprint car racing. Sprint cars are powerful, lightweight open-wheel cars built for racing on short dirt or paved tracks. He became a competitor in the Dixie Outlaw Sprint Car Series. He also raced several times in the Permatex 300. This was a Late Model Sportsman Division race. It was held at Daytona International Speedway as a support race for the famous Daytona 500.

Harold competed in several other races, including the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and NASCAR Grand American series. Here are some of his notable races:
