Harpalus affinis is a fascinating type of ground beetle. These beetles are usually found walking on the ground, and they are native to a huge area called the Palearctic realm, which includes Europe and a big part of Asia. But Harpalus affinis is also a bit of a world traveler! It has been introduced to other places, like North America and the Australasian region, which includes countries like New Zealand.

About the Harpalus Affinis Beetle

This beetle is quite small, usually measuring between 8.5 and 12 millimeters long. That's about the size of your fingernail! Even though it's mostly black, it has a special secret: its body shines with amazing metallic colors. You might see hints of bronze, green, or even blue on its surface, making it look quite pretty in the sunlight.

Where Harpalus Affinis Lives

The Harpalus affinis beetle naturally lives across a vast area called the Palearctic realm. This means you can find it from many parts of Europe all the way to Siberia in Asia.

But this beetle didn't stay only in its original home! It has also traveled to North America. Now, you can find it in several parts of Canada, from British Columbia on the west coast to the Maritimes on the east coast. It also made its way to New Zealand and became established there in the mid-to-late 1970s. This shows how some insects can spread to new places and make them their home!
