The station was built by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. It is also part of the historic area known as the Harpers Ferry Historic District.

The station building is made of wood and has a Victorian style. It was built in 1889. It stands on the old foundations of buildings from the original Harpers Ferry armory.

In 2007, the station was updated and reopened. This big project cost $2.2 million. The renovation included fixing up the station's tower.

Harpers Ferry Train Station

Harpers Ferry station is a key spot for train travel in West Virginia. It connects people to different places. It also has a rich history.

A Historic Building

The station building itself is quite old and special. It was built in 1889. The style is called Victorian, which means it looks like buildings from the late 1800s. It has a classic wooden design.

What's really interesting is where it stands. The station was built on top of the buried foundations of older buildings. These were part of the original Harpers Ferry armory. This shows how history is layered in this town.

In 2007, the station got a big makeover. Workers spent $2.2 million to fix it up. They made sure to restore the station's tower. This helped keep its historic look.

How Trains Use the Station

A train station needs platforms for people to get on and off trains. Harpers Ferry station has two side platforms. This means there is a platform on each side of the train tracks.

  • One platform is for trains heading in one direction.
  • The other platform is for trains going the opposite way.

Amtrak trains like the Capitol Limited stop here. These trains travel long distances across the country. MARC trains also stop here. MARC trains are for people who travel shorter distances, often for daily commutes.

Who Uses the Station?

We can tell how popular a train station is by looking at its "ridership." This means how many people use it.

  • In 2013, about 104 people used the MARC train service from Harpers Ferry station each day.
  • In 2019, about 7,920 passengers used the Amtrak service from this station.

This shows that many people rely on Harpers Ferry station for their travels.
