Harry Tunney Waters Jr. (born April 13, 1953) is an American actor, singer, and theatre director. He is most famous for playing Marvin Berry in the popular movies Back to the Future (1985) and Back to the Future Part II (1989). His singing of "Night Train" and "Earth Angel" from the Back to the Future soundtrack helped it become a gold record. He also created the role of Belize in the first play of Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes in 1991.

Harry Waters Jr.'s Career
Harry Waters Jr. was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and grew up in Denver, Colorado. He studied at Princeton University and later earned a special degree in Directing from the University of Wisconsin- Madison. For over ten years, he worked as an actor in New York City, performing in both Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. He also acted in theaters across the country. Some of these theaters include the Mark Taper Forum and Berkeley Repertory Theatre.
Becoming Marvin Berry
In 1985, Harry Waters Jr. got the role of Marvin Berry in the movie Back to the Future. Marvin Berry is a made-up cousin of the famous musician Chuck Berry. Harry Waters Jr. played this role again in the movie Back to the Future Part II in 1989. His musical performances in these movies became very well-known.
Other Acting Roles
In 1991, he was the first actor to play the character Belize in the play Angels in America. He was also a cast member in the 1992 Disney TV show Adventures in Wonderland. In this show, he played the character Tweedle Dee. This show was based on the classic books Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll.
Harry Waters Jr. has also worked with writer Jewelle Gomez. They created a play about James Baldwin called Waiting for Giovanni. This play was shown in San Francisco in 2011-2012.
Teaching and Directing
Besides acting, Waters has taught acting and how to develop scripts. He has also directed many plays across the country. He is currently a professor in the Theatre Department at Macalester College. As he gets ready to retire, he was named the Associate Dean of the Kofi Annan Institute for Global Citizenship. He is also an honorary member of Phi Beta Kappa, which is a very respected academic honor society in the United States.
