Biography

Early Life of Hason Raja

Hason Raja was born on December 21, 1854. His birthplace was Lakshmansree, which is now in Sunamganj. He came from a wealthy Bengali Muslim family of landowners called zamindars.

His father was Dewan Ali Raja. Hason Raja's mother was Hurmat Jahan Bibi. She was his father's fifth wife. Hason Raja spent most of his childhood in Lakshmansree with his mother.

When Hason Raja was young, his older half-brother, Ubaidur Raja, passed away. Soon after, his father also died. This meant Hason Raja had to take on the family's responsibilities at a very young age.

Later Life and Contributions

As an adult, Hason Raja did many good things for his community. He built schools and religious centers, like mosques. He was known for being very generous and giving to charity.

He gave away large amounts of his land to help people. Hason Raja also cared deeply about animals and birds. He spent a lot of his money to protect them.

In 1897, a huge earthquake hit the Assam and Sylhet areas. It was one of the biggest earthquakes ever recorded in India. Many buildings were destroyed, and there was a lot of flooding. Hason Raja's own house was badly damaged. He also lost many of his beloved pet birds and animals in the disaster.

Death and Legacy

Hason Raja passed away on December 6, 1922. To honor his memory, two museums were created in his name.

One museum, called the Hason Raja Museum, is in Sunamganj. This is where he was born. The other museum, named Museum of Rajas', is in Sylhet. These museums help people learn about his life and his amazing songs.
