Hassan Ali Khaire (born April 15, 1967) is a well-known politician. He used to be the Prime Minister of Somalia. People often call him Hassan Khaire.
He was chosen as Prime Minister on February 23, 2017. This was by Somalia's President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed. He left his job on July 25, 2020. This happened after a vote by Members of Parliament.
Before becoming Prime Minister, Khaire worked in the oil industry. He also worked for a charity called the Norwegian Refugee Council. He was a director for the British oil company Soma Oil & Gas.

Early Life and Education
Growing Up in Somalia
Hassan Ali Khaire was born in El Buur, a town in central Somalia. He spent his early years in Mogadishu, the capital city. He finished both primary and secondary school there.
Moving to Norway
In 1991, a civil war started in Somalia. Khaire moved to Norway as a refugee. In 1994, he began studying at the University of Oslo. He has dual citizenship, meaning he is a citizen of both Norway and Somalia.
University Studies
Khaire earned a degree in political science in 1998. He also studied sociology. Later, in 2001, he completed his MBA. This was at Edinburgh Business School, part of Heriot-Watt University.
Career Journey
Working for a Charity
After finishing his studies, Khaire returned to Oslo. In 2002, he started working for the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC). This is a charity that helps people. He began as a coordinator at their main office.
He left the NRC for a few years to work in business. But in 2006, he came back to the NRC. He worked his way up to become a Regional Director. He was in charge of operations in the Horn of Africa.
Work in the Oil Industry
Khaire later joined Soma Oil & Gas. This was an oil company. He became an executive director for their work in Africa. He started with the company when it began in 2013.
In 2016, some concerns were raised about his past. However, after a careful review, he was cleared of any wrongdoing. The investigations found no credible evidence against him. On February 23, 2017, Soma Oil & Gas announced that Khaire had resigned from his position.
Becoming Prime Minister
Appointment and Approval
On February 23, 2017, President Mohamed announced Khaire as the new Prime Minister. Before this, Khaire had never held a public government job. However, he had worked with many important officials.
Members of Parliament strongly supported his appointment. On March 1, 2017, 231 MPs approved him as Prime Minister.
Leading the Government
On March 21, 2017, Khaire thanked the lawmakers. He then presented his choices for the Cabinet Ministers. The parliament approved his Cabinet on March 29, 2017.
He promised to fight against corruption. He said he would make sure people involved in corruption would face consequences. He also focused on making the country safer. His government worked to improve how the government operates.
Resignation from Office
On July 25, 2020, Khaire resigned. Members of Parliament had voted to remove confidence in his government. They said he had not delivered on promises. These promises included improving security and holding a fair election.
Some government officials questioned if the vote was legal. They said the Speaker of Parliament did not follow proper rules. The U.S. Embassy in Somalia also expressed concerns. The High Representative of the European Union, Josep Borrell, said the vote did not meet constitutional rules.
Khaire was away when the vote happened. When he returned, he said the vote was unconstitutional. He then offered his resignation. He said he wanted to "set a good example in leadership" and reduce tensions.
