Somali prime ministers are given a new number even if they serve more than one time. For example, former prime minister Omar Sharmarke mentioned on his Twitter page that he was the "13th and 18th Prime Minister of Somalia."
The position of prime minister was empty for a long time after Umar Ghalib left office. Then, Ali Khalif Galaydh became the eighth prime minister in August 2000. It's important to know that acting prime ministers are not given an official number. For instance, Osman Jama Ali was an acting prime minister between Ali Khalif Galaydh (the eighth) and Hassan Abshir Farah (the ninth), but he didn't get a number. In June 2022, Hamza Abdi Barre became the 21st Prime Minister, taking over from Mohamed Hussein Roble, who was the 20th.
