The Story of Hatfield Meats
How It Started
The company's story began with John C. Clemens. He started a business called Pleasant Valley Packing. He sold meat from his farm in Mainland, Pennsylvania, to markets in Philadelphia.
Later, in 1895, J. M. Funk started a pork processing plant in Hatfield, Pennsylvania. This plant would later become Hatfield Meats.
Growing Through the Years
John C. Clemens' sons, John S. and Abe Clemens, took over Pleasant Valley Packing. In 1946, their plant unfortunately burned down. After this, the two brothers, along with their other brothers, Ezra and Lester, bought the Hatfield plant.
Since then, the Clemens family has owned and managed the company. They do this through their private company, the Clemens Family Corporation. This group mainly works through the Clemens Food Group. The Hatfield factory where they make the products does not have a union.
