How Hatfield Meats Started
The Early Years (1800s)
The story of Hatfield Meats began with John C. Clemens. He started a company called Pleasant Valley Packing. He first sold meat from his farm in Mainland, Pennsylvania, to markets in Philadelphia.
Later, in 1895, J. M. Funk opened a pork processing plant in Hatfield, Pennsylvania. This plant is what we know today as Hatfield Meats.
Growing Through the 1900s
John C. Clemens' sons, John S. and Abe Clemens, took over Pleasant Valley Packing. In 1946, their plant burned down. After this, the two brothers, along with their other brothers Ezra and Lester, bought the Hatfield plant.
Since then, the Clemens family has owned and managed the company. They do this through a private company called Clemens Family Corporation. This group mainly works through the Clemens Food Group.
