In 2020, about 4,174 people lived in Haviland. It is part of a larger group of cities and towns. This group includes Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, and Middletown. Haviland is located in the southern part of the town of Hyde Park. A famous place, the Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site, is also found here.

Main Roads and Waterways
New York State Route 9G is the main road that goes through Haviland. This road, also called Violet Avenue, leads south about 5 miles (8 km) to Poughkeepsie. The western edge of Haviland is marked by a small river called the Maritje Kill.
