Hawfields is a small area in Alamance County, North Carolina, USA. It's called an unincorporated community because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county.
People started living in Hawfields a long time ago, in the 1600s. Many early settlers were immigrants from Ulster (in Ireland) and Western Africa. The community really started to grow between 1740 and 1750. The settlers first called it "Haw Old Fields." This name came from the Haw River, which flows nearby.
Hawfields is located southwest of Mebane on North Carolina Highway 119. It is one of the very oldest communities in Alamance County. Its history is even mentioned in old records about the Sissipahaw people. Hawfields is also home to the oldest church in Alamance County, the Hawfields Presbyterian Church. This church is so important that it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1770, this church was the main meeting place for the Orange Presbytery, a group of Presbyterian churches.
