What is the Haymarket District?
This area is a popular spot for visitors and locals. It's home to the Haymarket Park baseball stadium, where many exciting games happen. The Haymarket District is so important that it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's officially recognized for its history.
Why is it called Haymarket?
The name "Haymarket" comes from a market that started here in 1867. Back then, people would come to buy and sell hay and other things needed for travel. Over time, the old warehouses in the area were changed into cool new shops and restaurants.
Historic Buildings and Design
Many of the buildings in the Haymarket District have unique designs. Different architecture companies helped create them. For example, the historic J. C. Ridnour Building was built in 1925. It was designed by a company called Meginnis and Schaumberg.
