History of Hazleton
Hazleton started in 1853 when E. W. Tenney opened a store. A post office soon opened. It was named "Hazelton" because the area had many hazelnut trees.
Later, when the railway was built, it did not go through the original town. So, the whole town was moved about a mile to be closer to the railway. The new location of Hazleton was set up in 1873. The city officially became a town in 1883.
Geography and Location
Hazleton is in the state of Iowa. The city covers a total area of about 0.79 square miles (2.05 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, about 0.75 square miles (1.94 square kilometers). A small part, about 0.04 square miles (0.10 square kilometers), is water.
