Hebe's Early Life
Hebe Tien, whose real name is Tian Fuzhen, was born in Xinfeng, Hsinchu, Taiwan. Her birthday is March 30, 1983. Her father worked for the government. Her mother was a homemaker. Hebe has an older brother. He used to own a restaurant.
She went to Hukou High School in Hsinchu. Hebe once shared that if she hadn't become a singer, she might have worked for the government like her dad. When she was 16, in 1999, Hebe first appeared on TV. She was on a show called Guess. She played the flute on one part of the show. On another show, TV Citizen, she showed her singing skills. She won 10,000 NTD (New Taiwan Dollars) on that show.
Hebe's Music Journey
Starting with S.H.E
After her TV appearances, Hebe was asked to audition for a music company. This company was called Grand Music International (now HIM International Music). On August 8, 2000, HIM International Music held a big contest. They were looking for new artists. Hebe was encouraged to join this TV competition.
About 1,000 people took part in the contest. After many rounds, only seven contestants were left. In one round, Hebe's voice cracked while singing. For the final round, she chose a song by Kit Chan. She didn't know the song very well. So, she missed about ten seconds of the lyrics.
Even with that, the record company invited all seven contestants for an audition. The show's manager liked Hebe's honest personality and strong voice. Because of this, Hebe was chosen to be part of a new girl group. The group was named S.H.E. The other members were Selina and Ella. They all signed with HIM International Music.
Solo Success: To Hebe and My Love
After a very successful time with S.H.E, Hebe started her solo music career in 2010. In September, she released her first solo album, To Hebe. Critics really loved it. In May 2011, the album was nominated for four awards. This was at the 22nd Golden Melody Awards. Her music video for "Leave Me Alone" won an award. This made Hebe the first Chinese-language female singer to have a music video reach 10 million views. Later, in January 2013, "Leave Me Alone" from her first album also reached 10 million views. This made her the first Chinese-language singer with two music videos over 10 million views. In May 2012, My Love received the most nominations at the 23rd Golden Melody Awards.
