Selina Jen Chia-hsüan (Chinese: 任家萱; pinyin: Rén Jiāxuān) is a famous singer, TV host, and actress from Taiwan. She was born on October 31, 1981. Selina is best known as a member of the popular Taiwanese girl group S.H.E. She also studied Civic Education and Leadership at the National Taiwan Normal University, graduating in 2004.

In 2010, Selina was seriously hurt in an accident while filming a TV show. She suffered severe burns but showed amazing strength during her recovery. Her younger sister, Lorene Ren, is also an actress and singer.

Joining S.H.E: A Dream Come True

Selina's journey into music began on August 8, 2000. A music company called HIM International Music held a contest to find new artists. Selina's younger sister, Lorene, wanted to join but was too young. So, Selina entered the competition instead.

About 1000 people tried out. After many rounds, only seven contestants were left. Selina was the winner of the contest! She impressed the judges by singing songs like "Before I Fall in Love" and "Reflection." Even though she was nervous, she won. The company decided to sign all three future members of S.H.E together.

The Meaning Behind Her Name

The company chose the name "Selina" for her after a personality test. It means "gentleness." Selina picked the spelling "Selina" because she liked being able to dot the "i."

Music Collaborations and Solo Work

Selina has worked with other talented artists. She sang "Solo Love Song" (獨唱情歌) with Tank. She also collaborated with Leehom Wang on "You're a Song Inside My Heart" (你是我心内的一首歌).

In January 2015, Selina released her first solo album called 3.1415. Soon after, in February 2015, she held her first solo concert in Taipei.

Venturing into Business and Film

By January 2021, Selina started her own food business, selling packed porridge. Her company is called Ren Sing Eat Shot (任性eat下). She also shares videos of her food and hiking adventures on her YouTube channel.

In April 2022, Selina starred in her first horror movie, The Funeral (頭七). She played a mother in the film. This was her first movie role in almost twelve years since her accident. Later that month, she released her second solo album, My Own Beauty. She even wrote and composed two songs for it, including "In The Dark," which was the theme song for The Funeral.

Overcoming Challenges: The Accident and Recovery

On October 22, 2010, Selina was seriously injured during a TV show filming in Shanghai. She suffered third-degree burns on more than 54% of her body, mainly on her back and legs. She needed skin grafting operations.

Selina was discharged from the hospital in January 2011. She held a press conference to share her condition and her plans to return to work. Her strength and positive attitude during her recovery inspired many people.

Family Life and New Beginnings

In May 2010, Selina announced that she was dating lawyer Richard Chang (張承中) during a concert. They got married on October 31, 2011. In March 2016, Selina shared on Facebook that they were planning to divorce, which was finalized in April of that year.

In March 2022, Selina confirmed she was in a new relationship with Xu, who is not a celebrity. In March 2023, she announced on her social media that she was expecting her first child. Her son was born on September 7, 2023.

In December 2023, Selina's team announced that her food company, Rensingeatshot, would stop operations in January 2024. However, they said this would not affect her collaborations with other brands.
