Hedemora is a town in Dalarna County, Sweden. It is the main town, or "seat," of Hedemora Municipality. In 2010, about 7,273 people lived there.
Even though it's not a huge city today, Hedemora is special because it's the oldest "city" in its county. This is due to its long and interesting history.

History
Hedemora became a town in 1446. This makes it the oldest and only medieval town in the area of Dalarna.
The town faced big challenges from fires. In 1754, a huge fire destroyed 90 out of 110 houses, including all the places where grain was stored. Another fire hit in 1849. Even though these fires caused a lot of damage, they also allowed the town to be rebuilt with straighter streets and more organized blocks.
Hedemora was also important for making money! From 1521 to 1524, it was home to Gustav I of Sweden's first mint. This is where coins were made for the country.
In 1958, Hedemora hosted a major event: the first Swedish motorcycle Grand Prix of MotoGP. A special motor racing track was set up in the city for this exciting race.
