Hedemora Municipality (Hedemora kommun) is a special area in central Sweden. It is like a local government district. This municipality is located in Dalarna County. The main town, or "seat," of the municipality is Hedemora.
In 1966, the old City of Hedemora joined with the rural area around it. It also joined with the nearby area of Husby. This created the Hedemora Municipality we know today.
History of Hedemora
Military Past of Hedemora
The town of Hedemora played an important role in Swedish history. It was a meeting place for farmers who fought as soldiers. This happened during the Swedish War of Liberation in 1521. This war was fought against Denmark.
A famous battle, the Battle of Brunnbäck Ferry, took place nearby. Peder Svensson, a leader from a village in Hedemora Municipality, helped win this battle.
Later, a system called the "allotment system" was used. This system helped Sweden organize its army. The Colonel's Company of the Dalarna Regiment recruited soldiers from Hedemora and Husby areas. The colonels, who were army leaders, lived at Näs kungsgård and Husby kungsgård during this time.
