This church belongs to the Church of Sweden, which is a Lutheran church. It serves as the main church for the Hedvig Eleonora Parish within the Diocese of Stockholm.
The church was officially opened and dedicated on August 21, 1737. It was named after a Swedish Queen, Hedwig Eleonora of Holstein-Gottorp, who lived from 1636 to 1715.
