Heggie's Rock is a really big rock made of granite in Columbia County, Georgia, in the United States. It's so special that it was named a National Natural Landmark in 1980. A group called The Nature Conservancy bought it in 1983 to help protect it. This area is now known as the Heggie's Rock Preserve.

What is Heggie's Rock?
Heggie's Rock is a huge granite outcropping. This means it's a large piece of rock that sticks out from the ground. It covers about 130 acres (53 hectares) of land. You can find it in Columbia County, Georgia, about 20 miles (32 km) from Augusta, Georgia.
A Special Natural Place
This giant rock rises about 70 feet (21 meters) above the land around it. Two small streams, Benton Branch and Little Kiokee Creek, flow near the rock. Little Kiokee Creek eventually joins the Savannah River about 8 miles (13 km) away.
Because of its unique features, Heggie's Rock was officially named a National Natural Landmark in 1980. This title means it's a very important natural area in the United States.

In 1983, The Nature Conservancy bought 101 acres (41 hectares) of Heggie's Rock. The Nature Conservancy is a group that works to protect important natural places and wildlife. They created the Heggie's Rock Preserve to keep this special area safe.
Home to Unique Life
Heggie's Rock is not just a big rock; it's also home to many interesting plants and animals. In 1998, scientists made an exciting discovery here. They found a brand new type of tiny creature called a copepod. This specific kind of copepod has only ever been found at Heggie's Rock!
