Heinz Strehl (born July 20, 1938 – died August 11, 1986) was a talented German football player. He was known as a forward, which means he played in an attacking position to score goals. Strehl was a key player for his club, 1. FC Nürnberg, and also played for the West German national team.

Strehl's Football Journey

Heinz Strehl was a very good goalscorer in West Germany during the 1960s. He won the Bundesliga title with 1. FC Nürnberg in 1968. This was a big achievement for him and his team.

Playing for West Germany

Strehl made his first appearance for the West Germany team on September 30, 1962. In this game against Yugoslavia, he scored three goals! This is called a hat-trick in football. He scored these goals very quickly, between the 23rd and 62nd minute. West Germany won that match 3–2 thanks to his goals.

His hat-trick is still one of the fastest in the history of the West Germany national team. Before this, Strehl was part of the team for the 1962 FIFA World Cup. However, he did not get to play in any games during that tournament.

He scored one more goal for West Germany in 1965 against Cyprus. West Germany won that game 5–0. This was his last match for the national team.

Strehl's Playing Style

Heinz Strehl mainly played as a centre forward. This position is usually for the main goalscorer. However, another famous player, Uwe Seeler, played in the same position. This meant Strehl often only played for the national team when Seeler was not available.

As a player, Strehl was very strong and good at heading the ball. He was also skilled with the ball and had good passing abilities. Sometimes, he played as an inside forward because he could see the whole field well and make good passes to his teammates.

Club Success and Retirement

Besides winning the Bundesliga in 1968, Strehl also won other important titles with 1. FC Nürnberg. He won the West German football championship in 1961. He also won the West German Cup in 1962.

In 1970, Strehl suffered a knee injury called a meniscus injury. This injury made him retire from playing professional football. After retiring, he continued to be involved in football. He worked as a player-manager for a club called FC Schwaig until 1973.

Heinz Strehl passed away on August 11, 1986, at the age of 48. He died due to heart problems.
