Helmut Kremers (born March 24, 1949) is a German former football player. He played as a full-back, which is a defensive position on the field. Helmut has a twin brother named Erwin Kremers, who was also a famous German football player. They were the first twin brothers to ever play in the Bundesliga, which is Germany's top football league.

Club Career Highlights

Helmut Kremers started his professional career with Borussia Mönchengladbach in 1967. He won his first DFB-Pokal (German Cup) trophy in 1970 with Kickers Offenbach. This was a big achievement for a team from a lower league.

In 1971, Helmut joined FC Schalke 04 along with his twin brother Erwin. Together, they helped Schalke 04 win the DFB-Pokal again in 1972. Helmut played for Schalke 04 for many years, from 1971 to 1980.

After leaving Schalke, Helmut played for other clubs. He played for Rot-Weiss Essen in the 1980–81 2. Bundesliga (Germany's second division). He also played for the North American Soccer League team Calgary Boomers in 1981. Later that year, he joined the Memphis Americans in the Major Indoor Soccer League for one season.

In total, Helmut Kremers scored 50 goals in 273 matches in the Bundesliga.

Playing for Germany

Helmut Kremers played eight games for the West Germany national team. His last game was in 1975 against England.

Even though he played fewer games for the national team than his twin brother, Helmut was part of the team that won the 1974 FIFA World Cup. This big tournament was held in Germany that year. Helmut was in the winning squad, but he did not play in any of the matches.

Despite not playing, he received a special award called the Silver Laurel Leaf. This award is given to athletes in Germany for their achievements.

Helmut and his twin brother Erwin played together in three national team matches. These games were against Austria in 1973, France in 1973, and Hungary in 1974.

After His Playing Career

After retiring from playing football, Helmut Kremers stayed involved with FC Schalke 04. He was the manager for the club three times between 1989 and 1993. He also served as the club's president from September to December 1994.

In 1992, he started his own company in Duisburg. This company works on developing different projects. In 2011, he tried to become the president of another football club, MSV Duisburg, but he was not chosen.

Helmut Kremers trained to be a wholesale merchant before becoming a professional footballer.

In 1974, Helmut and his twin brother Erwin, known as "Die Kremers," even released a song! Their song, "The Girl of My Dreams," reached 44th place on the German music charts.

During their football careers, the twin brothers lived in the same house with their families. They also owned a discotheque together.
