Henrik Larsen's Club Football Journey
Henrik Larsen started his football career in Denmark. He played for Taarbæk IF and then for Lyngby Boldklub. With Lyngby, he won the Danish Cup in 1985.
Playing in Italy
In 1990, Henrik moved to Italy to play for Pisa Calcio. This club was in Serie B, which is the second-highest football league in Italy. Pisa was promoted to Serie A, the top league, but then got relegated back to Serie B. Rules in Serie B only allowed two foreign players. Pisa chose two Argentinian players, so Henrik had to find somewhere else to play.
Loans and Return to Denmark
After the Euro 92 tournament, Henrik went back to Pisa. But he was soon put up for sale. Many clubs were interested, but Pisa's high price made it hard to sell him. In January 1993, he went on loan to Aston Villa F.C. in England. His time there was short, and he didn't play much.
Later in 1993, he was loaned to SV Waldhof Mannheim in Germany, where he played well. In 1994, he returned to Denmark to play for Lyngby again on loan. In 1995, he officially rejoined Lyngby.
Ending His Playing Career
After UEFA Euro 1996, Henrik moved to FC Copenhagen. He won the Danish Cup with them in 1997. He stopped playing professional football in 1999.
Henrik Larsen's International Success
While on loan at Lyngby, Henrik helped them win the 1992 Danish Superliga championship. He was then chosen to play for the Danish team in the UEFA Euro 1992 tournament.
Euro 1992 Victory
Henrik started Euro 92 as a substitute player. But he became a hero, scoring three goals in the tournament. This included both goals in the semi-final match against the Netherlands, which ended in a 2–2 draw. He scored in the penalty shootout that followed. Henrik and the Danish team then won the final against Germany. It was a huge surprise victory for Denmark!
Henrik Larsen's Coaching Career
After he stopped playing, Henrik Larsen became a football coach.
Early Coaching Roles
He started as an assistant coach at FC Copenhagen. Then he became the manager of Ølstykke FC. From 2002 to 2005, he was the head coach of the Faroe Islands national football team. He also worked with young players at Lyngby Boldklub.
Managing Danish Clubs
In 2006, he was a temporary manager for Holbæk B&I. Later that year, he became the manager of Køge Boldklub until 2008. In July 2008, he became the head coach of Lyngby Boldklub, but he was fired after eight months in March 2009.
He then became an assistant manager at Randers FC in 2009, working with another Danish football legend, Flemming Povlsen. However, they were all fired in October 2009. From 2010 to 2015, he was an assistant coach for Lyngby Boldklub's U19 team.
Personal Life
In 1998, Henrik Larsen announced that he was going to marry Sacha Crowther. She was an English sports reporter whom he had met two years earlier at the UEFA European Championship.
