Henry Alexander Greene (born August 5, 1856 – died August 19, 1921) was an important officer in the United States Army. He served in the late 1800s and early 1900s. He took part in several big wars, including World War I.

Early Life and Military Training
Henry Alexander Greene was born on August 5, 1856. His hometown was Matteawan, New York, which is now part of Beacon, New York. He went to the United States Military Academy, also known as West Point. He finished his studies there in 1879.
Early Military Career
After graduating, Greene became an officer in the 20th Infantry Regiment. From 1879 to 1894, he worked on the American frontier. He served in places like Texas and Montana. For three years, he even led a group of Sioux scouts.
Greene also fought in the Spanish–American War in Cuba. He was part of the Siege of Santiago. Later, he served in the Philippines during the Philippine–American War. In both wars, he commanded a company of infantry soldiers. He also worked as an assistant to General Elwell Stephen Otis.
Important Roles and Commands
From 1903 to 1904, Greene was on the board of the United States Army War College. He also worked as a secretary for the General Staff during that time. He then became the Chief of Staff for different army divisions. He led the Southwest Division from 1904 to 1905. After that, he led the Northern Division from 1905 to 1907.
From 1907 to 1908, Greene commanded the 10th Infantry Regiment in Alaska. He was then stationed at Fort Benjamin Harrison from 1908 to 1911. During this time, he was also the president of the Infantry Equipment Board. This board helped decide what gear soldiers would use.
World War I Service
In 1914, Greene was promoted to brigadier general. He became the commandant of the United States Army Command and General Staff College. He held this important leadership role from September 1914 to August 1916.
As World War I continued, Greene was promoted again. On August 5, 1917, he became a major general. He commanded the 91st Division during parts of 1917 and 1918.
Retirement and Later Life
Greene retired from the army on November 29, 1918. He then lived in Berkeley, California. He passed away on August 19, 1921. Years later, in June 1930, Congress officially restored his rank of major general.
Personal Life
Henry Alexander Greene married Augusta B. Barlow on December 21, 1881. He was a member of the Episcopal Church and also a Mason.
