Henry Frowick (died 1459) was an important English businessman and politician. He was elected to the Parliament of England five times. He represented the City of London. Henry also served as the City's Lord Mayor twice.

Henry Frowick's Early Life

Henry Frowick was born after 1377. He belonged to the Frowick family. This family was well-known in London for about 200 years. His father was also named Henry Frowick. His father owned land in South Mimms in Middlesex. His mother was Alice Cornwall. Henry had an older brother, Thomas Frowick, who was also a Member of Parliament. After his father passed away, his mother married Thomas Carlton. Henry then gained a stepbrother, Sir Thomas Carlton.

Henry Frowick's Public Service

Henry Frowick was a member of the Mercers' Company. This was a powerful group of merchants. He began working for the City of London in 1421. He was first appointed as an auditor. In 1422, he was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP). He was elected again in 1423.

In 1424, Henry became an alderman. This was a senior city official. He was chosen as Master of the Mercers' Company five times. His first time was in 1426. In 1427, he served as a Sheriff for the City of London. From 1429, he joined many royal committees. These committees helped govern the City and Middlesex.

Lord Mayor and International Work

In 1435, Henry Frowick was chosen as Lord Mayor of London. This was a very important position. In 1437, he was elected as an MP for the third time. He also worked with German merchants. In 1436, he was an ambassador to the Hanse towns. These were powerful trading cities. In 1442, he became a justice for the German community in London. This community was located at the Steelyard.

Henry was chosen as Lord Mayor for a second time in 1444. He was elected as an MP for the fourth time in 1447. This Parliament was held at Bury St Edmunds. Henry said he would only attend if he had good accommodation. He served his fifth term as an MP in 1450. Henry Frowick made his will in April 1459. He asked to be buried in the church of the Hospital of St Thomas of Acre. He passed away by March 1460.

Henry Frowick's Family

Henry Frowick married Isabel. She passed away in 1465. Isabel was the widow of William Otes. Henry and Isabel had two known children:

  • Thomas Frowick (died 1485): He was later knighted and became an MP. He married Jane Sturgeon. Their son was the famous judge Thomas Frowick.
  • Elizabeth Frowick (died after 1459): She married Roger Appleton, who was also an MP.
