Henry William Scriven was born on August 30, 1951. He is an English Anglican bishop who has worked in different parts of the world, including Europe and America.

Early Life and Schooling
Henry Scriven grew up in England. He went to Repton School in Derbyshire. After that, he studied at the University of Sheffield. He then continued his studies at St John's College, Nottingham.
His Work as a Bishop
Starting His Ministry
Henry Scriven became a priest in 1975. For four years, he worked in the Diocese of London in England. Then, he spent two years in Argentina, helping the South American Missionary Society (SAMS).
When the Falklands War started, Scriven and his family moved to Little Rock, Arkansas in the United States. There, he worked at Christ Episcopal Church from 1982 to 1983. He helped with education programs.
From 1984 to 1990, Scriven continued his work with SAMS in Spain. He was part of the Spanish Reformed Episcopal Church. After that, he served for five years as a chaplain. He worked at the British Embassy Church in Madrid. This church was part of the Diocese of Gibraltar in Europe of the Church of England.
Becoming a Bishop
On March 8, 1995, Henry Scriven became a bishop. He was made a Suffragan Bishop in Europe by George Carey. At that time, George Carey was the Archbishop of Canterbury, a very important leader in the Church of England. In May 1995, he also became an assistant bishop for American churches in Europe.
From 2002 to 2008, Bishop Scriven worked as an assistant bishop for the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh in the United States. He was the 980th bishop to be recognized by the Episcopal Church in the United States of America.
In July 2024, he was asked by the Church of England Evangelical Council to be an "overseer." This means he provides special guidance to some church leaders and churches in the Church of England. These leaders want to keep following older, traditional teachings.
Family Life
Henry Scriven is married to Catherine. They have two children, a daughter named Anna and a son named Joel.
He is also related to a famous poet, Joseph Scriven. Joseph Scriven wrote the well-known hymn "What a Friend We Have in Jesus".
