Herm is a very small island in the Channel Islands. It is the smallest of these islands that people can visit.
Herm is only about 2.4 kilometers (1½ miles) long. It's a special place because cars are not allowed on the island. Just like its neighbor, Sark, you won't find any cars here. Even bicycles are banned, which is different from Sark. With its beautiful sandy white beaches, Herm is a perfect spot for walking and exploring on foot.
In 2002, the population of Herm was 60 people.

About Herm Island
Herm is part of the Channel Islands, which are located off the coast of Normandy, France. These islands are not part of the United Kingdom. Instead, they are self-governing areas called Crown Dependencies. Herm is a dependency of Guernsey, which means Guernsey is responsible for its defense and international relations.
Who is in Charge?
Even though Herm is small, it has leaders. The main leader is Elizabeth II, who is known as the Duke of Normandy. She is the head of state. The Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey, currently Peter Walker, represents the Queen on the island.
Herm is also managed by "Tenants." These are people who lease the entire island from the government of Guernsey. As of now, John and Julia Singer are the tenants of Herm. They help manage the island's daily life and tourism.
Getting Around Herm
Since cars and bikes are not allowed, walking is the main way to get around Herm. The island's small size makes it easy to explore on foot. You can enjoy the peaceful environment without traffic.
Nature and Beaches
Herm is famous for its lovely sandy beaches. These beaches are great for swimming and relaxing. The island also has natural areas where you can see different plants and animals. It's a quiet place, perfect for enjoying nature.
