About the Sky Lily
The sky lily is a small, beautiful plant. It grows naturally in a few places. These places are New Zealand and parts of Australia. In Australia, you can find it in New South Wales, Victoria, and Tasmania.
How the Sky Lily Was Discovered
The sky lily was first officially described in 1853. A scientist named Joseph Dalton Hooker wrote about it. He used plant samples collected by William Colenso. These samples were found on the plains near Taupo in New Zealand.
Hooker's description was published in a book. The book was called The botany of the Antarctic voyage of H.M. discovery ships Erebus and Terror. II. Flora Novae-Zelandiae. This book helped other scientists learn about the sky lily.
