Hidaka Province (日高国, Hidaka-no kuni) was an old area in Japan. It was located on the large northern island of Hokkaido. This province existed for a short time, from 1869 to 1882.

The borders of this old province are very similar to an area called Hidaka Subprefecture today.

What Was Hidaka Province?

After 1869, the big northern island of Japan became known as Hokkaido. New smaller areas were created there. Hidaka Province was one of these new areas, set up in 1869.

During a time called the Meiji period, Japan changed its old provinces into new areas called prefectures. Maps of Japan, including Hidaka Province, were updated in the 1870s.

In 1882, Hidaka and ten other provinces on Hokkaido were changed again. They became three larger areas: Hakodate Prefecture, Sapporo Prefecture, and Nemuro Prefecture.
