Hidetoki Takahashi (born April 11, 1916 – died February 5, 2000) was a famous Japanese football player and manager. He is best known for leading the Japan national team.
Playing Career of Hidetoki Takahashi
Hidetoki Takahashi was born in Fukushima on April 11, 1916. He played football as a forward. He was a student at Waseda University, where he also played for their football team. In 1938, his team won the important Emperor's Cup. After finishing university, he played for the club Hitachi from 1941 until 1958.
Coaching Career of Hidetoki Takahashi
Takahashi began his coaching career in 1955. In 1957, he became the manager for the Japan national team. He then coached the Japan U-20 national team in 1959. Under his guidance, the U-20 team achieved 3rd place in the 1959 AFC Youth Championship.
He returned to manage the Japan national team again from 1960 to 1962. During this time, he led the team in the 1962 World Cup qualification matches and at the 1962 Asian Games. After his time with the national team, he went on to manage his former club, Hitachi.
Hidetoki Takahashi passed away on February 5, 2000, in Meguro, Tokyo, at the age of 83. In 2009, he was honored for his contributions to Japanese football and was chosen for the Japan Football Hall of Fame.
