Higgins Beach is a lovely small beach in the state of Maine, United States. It is part of the town of Scarborough in Cumberland County. The beach is located between Prouts Neck to the north and Crescent Beach State Park to the south.
This beach stretches for about 0.6 miles (1 km). It is about 7 miles (11 km) south of Portland. It is also about 110 miles (177 km) north of Boston. The beach is bordered by rocks on one side, called Thunder Cove. On the other side is the Spurwink River.
Higgins Beach is a small seaside community. It has about 300 cottages. There are also two inns, The Breakers and the Higgins Beach Inn. These inns are open during the summer months.

Public Access and Parking
People have always been able to visit Higgins Beach. However, there wasn't much public parking for a long time. In 2010, the town of Scarborough bought a small parking lot. This lot can hold about 75 cars.

Higgins Beach has kept its small-town charm. Other bigger beaches nearby, like Old Orchard, have become very busy with shops and tourists. Higgins Beach, however, remains a peaceful spot. It's a favorite for families who return year after year. Some people who live there now first came as kids!
