High Falls is a small, unincorporated community in Moore County, North Carolina, United States. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city. It's located along North Carolina Highway 22 and the Deep River. High Falls has its own post office with the ZIP code 27259. It's about 11.2 miles (18 km) north-northwest of Carthage.

The Story of High Falls
High Falls got its name from a special natural feature. The community was first called "The Great Falls" or "The Big Falls." This was because of a 15-foot (4.6 meter) waterfall in the Deep River right at this spot.
Early Beginnings
In 1780, a man named William England started a grist mill here. A grist mill is a place where grain, like corn or wheat, is ground into flour. This was a very important business for early communities.
Mills and Industry
Much later, in 1904, Thomas Woody built more mills. He constructed a spinning mill, a cotton mill, and another grist mill. He combined these businesses into a company called the High Falls Manufacturing Company. These mills helped the community grow by making cloth and processing food.
Education in High Falls
In the late 1800s, a small, one-room schoolhouse was built for the children of High Falls. This was a common way for communities to provide education back then. Later, this small school was replaced by a larger building, showing the community's growth and its focus on learning.
The Deep River Dam
Also in the late 1800s, the High Falls Dam was built on the Deep River. Dams are structures that hold back water. In the 1920s, this dam was changed to produce hydroelectricity. This means it used the power of flowing water to create electricity for a company called Hydrodyne Industries.
A Recent Change for the Dam
In April 2018, a company bought the dam. They suggested removing it to help the river's environment. This plan was meant to improve the natural habitat for fish and other river creatures. However, many local residents did not agree with this idea. Because of their concerns, the plan to remove the dam was put on hold.
