Highland Creek Golf Course
Highland Creek is built around a big 18-hole golf course. This course has five lakes, making it interesting to play. In 2014, it was even called one of Charlotte's toughest golf courses.
Fun and Activities
Highland Creek offers many ways to have fun. You can find swimming pools, a sports club, and courts for tennis, basketball, and volleyball. There is also a park where outdoor movies are shown in the spring and summer.
To keep the neighborhood safe, Highland Creek uses a private security company. They also have off-duty police officers who patrol the area.
Schools in Highland Creek
Highland Creek has its own elementary school. Highland Creek Elementary School teaches over 1,100 students from kindergarten to fifth grade. It also offers programs for students before and after school.
The school has 39 classrooms, learning cottages, a media center, and a computer lab. There's also an art room with a kiln and a music room. In 2012, Highland Creek Elementary was named a "school of excellence." This means it was among the top 1% of elementary schools in North Carolina.

Highland Creek is in an area of Charlotte called the "University Area." The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is about 10 miles (16 km) away. Many people who work at the university live in Highland Creek. UNC Charlotte is a very large campus with over 21,500 students.
Charlotte Motor Speedway is only about 5 miles (8 km) from Highland Creek. Concord Mills Mall, a popular shopping center, is even closer, about 2 miles (3 km) away.
Uptown Charlotte is about a 25-minute drive south. Many residents travel there for work at big companies like Duke Energy and Bank of America. These companies have their main offices in Charlotte. Wells Fargo is also one of the city's largest employers.
If you like nature, the Appalachian Mountains are about a two-hour drive west. For beach lovers, Myrtle Beach is about four hours southeast.
Getting Around
Highland Creek is located between two major highways, I-85 and I-77. It is also just outside the I-485 loop, which circles Charlotte and connects to both I-85 and I-77.
The community is close to Concord Regional Airport. This airport has a long runway for planes. Highland Creek is also convenient to Charlotte/Douglas International Airport. This larger airport offers flights from many major airlines.
