Hillcrest is a suburb in Burnie, a town in north-west Tasmania. It's a place where people live, located about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) south-west of the main town of Burnie. In 2016, about 1042 people called Hillcrest home.

Hillcrest has a nice green space called the Sampson Street Reserve. It's a public park that covers about 2.3 hectares (that's like 5.7 acres), perfect for outdoor activities. You can also find a handy shopping complex in Hillcrest. It has a cafe where you can grab a drink and a takeaway shop for quick meals.

Part of Hillcrest is known as the Terrylands estate. This area was developed starting around 1949 by the Agricultural Bank. The rest of Terrylands is located in the nearby suburb of Montello. Even though Terrylands is sometimes used as a name for the area, it's not an official suburb.

History of Hillcrest

Hillcrest became an officially recognized locality in 1966. This means its boundaries were formally set.

Exploring Hillcrest's Geography

The Shorewell Creek forms most of the western edge of Hillcrest. This creek helps define the suburb's natural boundary.

Getting Around: Road Access

The main road, Route A2 (also known as the Bass Highway), runs along the north-east side of Hillcrest. From this highway, many smaller streets lead into the suburb, making it easy to get around.

Sports and Activities

Hillcrest is home to the Burnie Aquatic Centre, a great place for swimming. It has both indoor and outdoor swimming pools. The Burnie Judo Club also trains in Hillcrest, using the facilities owned by the Burnie PCYC (Police Citizens Youth Clubs).
