Hiroshi Ninomiya (二宮 寛, Ninomiya Hiroshi, born February 13, 1937) is a famous Japanese football player and manager. He played as a forward for the Japan national team. Later, he also became the manager (coach) for the Japan national team.

Playing for Clubs

Hiroshi Ninomiya was born in Tokyo on February 13, 1937. After finishing his studies at Keio University, he joined a football club called Mitsubishi Motors in 1959.

In 1965, his club, Mitsubishi Motors, became part of a new football league called the Japan Soccer League. Hiroshi Ninomiya played for them until he retired in 1968. During his time in the league, he played in 45 games and scored 8 goals.

Representing Japan

Hiroshi Ninomiya first played for the Japan national team on December 25, 1958. He was still a student at Keio University when he made his debut against Hong Kong.

In 1959, he was a regular player for Japan. He played 9 games that year and scored 9 goals, which is a great achievement! Overall, he played 12 games for Japan and scored 9 goals before 1961.

Becoming a Coach

In 1967, while still playing for Mitsubishi Motors, Hiroshi Ninomiya also became the team's manager. He took over from Tomohiko Ikoma. He managed the club for 9 seasons, until 1975.

Under his coaching, Mitsubishi Motors won the league championship twice. They won in 1969 and again in 1973. The team also finished in second place four times. They also won the Emperor's Cup in 1971 and 1973.

After the Japan national team did not qualify for the 1976 Summer Olympics, Hiroshi Ninomiya became the manager for the national team in April 1976. He managed Japan during the 1978 World Cup qualification and the 1978 Asian Games. He left his role as national team manager after the 1978 Asian Games.

Honors and Recognition

In 2015, Hiroshi Ninomiya was honored by being chosen for the Japan Football Hall of Fame. This special place recognizes people who have made a big impact on football in Japan.
