Hiroyuki Usui (碓井 博行, Usui Hiroyuki, born August 4, 1953) is a famous Japanese football player and manager. He played as a forward for the Japan national team. His son, Kempei Usui, is also a footballer.

Playing Career: Hiroyuki Usui's Club Journey

Hiroyuki Usui was born in Fujieda, Japan, on August 4, 1953. After finishing his studies at Waseda University, he joined a football club called Hitachi in 1976.

Club Successes and Achievements

In his first year, his team, Hitachi, won the 1976 JSL Cup. Hiroyuki Usui was a fantastic scorer. He became the top goal scorer in the Japan Soccer League in both 1980 and 1982. Because of his great skills, he was also chosen for the "Best Eleven" team in those years. He played for Hitachi until he retired in 1988. During his time in Division 1, he played 200 games and scored 85 goals.

National Team Career: Playing for Japan

Hiroyuki Usui first played for the Japan national team on February 12, 1974. His first game was against Singapore.

Key International Matches

In 1977, he was chosen to play for Japan in the qualifiers for the 1978 FIFA World Cup. He also represented Japan at the 1978 Asian Games. Although he wasn't selected for the national team for a few years, he returned in 1984. He played in the qualifiers for the 1984 Summer Olympics. This match was his last game for Japan. Overall, he played 38 games and scored 15 goals for his country.

Coaching Career: Leading the Team

After he stopped playing football, Hiroyuki Usui became a manager. In 1989, he started coaching his former club, Hitachi.

In the 1989–90 season, his team finished last and was moved down to Division 2. However, under his leadership, the team quickly bounced back! They won the championship in Division 2 in the 1990–91 season and were promoted back to Division 1. Hiroyuki Usui left his coaching role in 1992.
