The Hoag Classic is a big golf tournament held every year in Newport Beach, California. It takes place in March at the Newport Beach Country Club. This club's golf course was designed by William Francis Bell in 1954.

The tournament started in 1995. Back then, it was called the Toshiba Senior Classic. Later, a company called Hoag became the main sponsor in 2019. That's why it's now known as the Hoag Classic. This event is part of the PGA Tour Champions, which is a special golf tour for professional golfers aged 50 and older.

One exciting moment happened in 1997. The longest "sudden-death playoff" in the history of the PGA Tour Champions took place here. A playoff happens when golfers are tied at the end of a tournament. They keep playing extra holes until one person wins. In 1997, Bob Murphy won against Jay Sigel on the ninth extra hole! This record was later broken at another tournament.
