Stewart Ernest Cink (born May 21, 1973) is an American professional golfer. He plays on the PGA Tour, which is a top golf circuit. Stewart Cink is best known for winning the 2009 Open Championship. He beat another famous golfer, Tom Watson, in a special playoff round. From 2004 to 2009, he was often ranked among the top 10 golfers in the world. His highest rank was 5th in 2008.

Stewart Cink's Early Life and Education
Stewart Cink was born in Huntsville, Alabama. He grew up in a nearby town called Florence. After finishing high school in 1991, he went to Georgia Tech. He studied Management there and played golf for the college team, the Yellow Jackets. He became a professional golfer in 1995.
Stewart Cink's Professional Golf Career
Stewart Cink started his professional career strong. In 1996, he won the Mexican Open. He also won three events on the Nike Tour, which is now known as the Korn Ferry Tour.
Joining the PGA Tour
In 1997, Cink joined the PGA Tour. This is one of the biggest golf tours in the world. He won his first PGA Tour event, the Canon Greater Hartford Open, in his very first year. He continued to play well, winning the MCI Classic in 2000.
In 2001, Cink almost won the U.S. Open. He finished just one shot away from a playoff. In 2004, he had a fantastic year. He won the MCI Heritage and the WGC-NEC Invitational. The WGC-NEC Invitational is one of the important World Golf Championships events.
Reaching the Top Ranks
In 2008, Stewart Cink was the runner-up at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. He lost to the world's top player, Tiger Woods. Later that year, he won the Travelers Championship. This win helped him reach his highest ever ranking: 6th in the world.
Winning a Major Championship
On July 19, 2009, Stewart Cink achieved his biggest win. He won his first major title at the 138th Open Championship. This famous tournament was held in Turnberry, Scotland. He faced 59-year-old Tom Watson, a golf legend who had won the Open five times before. Cink won by six strokes in a four-hole playoff. He had made a birdie on the last hole to force the playoff.
Recent Wins
After his major win, Cink continued to play golf. On September 13, 2020, he won the Safeway Open. This was his first win since the 2009 Open Championship. Then, on April 18, 2021, he won the RBC Heritage for the third time in his career. He became one of only a few players to win twice in a PGA Tour season after turning 47 years old.
