Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge was a special golf tournament. It brought together top golfers from three different professional tours. These tours were the PGA Tour, the LPGA Tour, and the Champions Tour. The event happened every November at the Rio Secco Golf Club in Henderson, Nevada.

This tournament was unique because it had three teams. Each team had three golfers. They played against each other in a stroke play format. This means they counted every shot to see who had the lowest score. In 2013, the prize money for the winners was $1 million.

The challenge was a one-day event. Golfers played 18 holes, usually on a Tuesday. Before the main event, there were other fun tournaments. These included an amateur tournament and a pro-am tournament. The main event was designed to be fair for everyone. This was done by "handicapping" the course. PGA Tour players played from the longest tees. Champions Tour players used shorter tees. LPGA players played from the shortest tees. This made sure everyone had a good chance to win.

The tournament also helped a great cause. It supported the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. This charity was started by Dave Thomas, who founded Wendy's restaurants. Wendy's was the main sponsor of the golf challenge. In 2013, the event raised a record $4.1 million. Since it began in 1992, the tournament raised over $50 million for the charity!

You could watch the event on TV. ABC showed it until 2009. They would broadcast it a few weeks later, usually in December before Christmas. The first nine holes aired on Saturday, and the last nine on Sunday. Terry Gannon was the announcer. From 2010 to 2013, the Golf Channel broadcast the tournament.
