Glen Day's Early Life and Golf Journey
Glen Day was born in Mobile, Alabama. He grew up in Poplarville, Mississippi, with his mother, Jeanne Bass Day. Glen's grandfather, Glyndol Bass, was a very important person in his life.
His grandfather loved golf and started teaching Glen when he was only 2 or 3 years old. By the time Glen was 10, he was already very good at golf. He could often shoot "par," which means finishing a golf course in the expected number of strokes.
Glen graduated from Poplarville High School in 1983. He then went to the University of Oklahoma. After college, he became a professional golfer in 1988. Glen has one sister, Danielle. He is married to Jennifer Ralston, and they have two daughters, Whitney and Francis.
A Champion on the Green
Glen Day achieved a big win in 1999 at the MCI Classic. He was the first golfer to win a professional tournament using a Nike Golf Ball. He beat famous golfer Payne Stewart in a playoff to win the event. This was his only win on the main PGA Tour.
In 2000, he finished in the top 10 at the Mercedes Championship. The next year, in 2001, he placed 4th at the MasterCard Colonial. He also tied for 6th place at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. As he got older, Glen played on both the PGA Tour and the Nationwide Tour. After turning 50, he joined the PGA Tour Champions.
Glen Day is known for playing golf very carefully and taking his time. Because of this, the legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus gave him the nickname "All Day." Glen is one of the few golfers who has received a penalty for playing too slowly in a tournament.
Beyond Playing Golf
Besides playing golf, Glen Day is also a golf course architect. This means he helps design golf courses. In 1999, he started a company called Day-Blalock Golf Course Design with Alan Blalock.
Glen was once ranked among the top 50 golfers in the world. His highest ranking was 30th in the year 2000. Today, Glen Day lives in Little Rock, Arkansas.
