In 2009, the Tasmanian Government announced a big plan. They provided $2.25 million to improve the Domain Tennis Centre. This was to make sure the Hobart International tournament could keep happening there.

The centre started making these improvements in 2009. The first step was to remove some old seating. In its place, they built new stands for important guests and media. These changes were ready for the 2010 tournament.

The next stage involved building new, permanent grandstands. These were added to the eastern and western sides of the main court. These new stands increased the seating capacity from about 1,000 to 2,800 spectators. All these upgrades were finished before the 2011 tournament, making the centre even better for fans!
