Hobbs Island is a small community located in Madison County, Alabama, in the United States. It is known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.

History of Hobbs Island

The name Hobbs Island comes from a nearby island in the Tennessee River. This island was once called Chickasaw Island. Long ago, it was home to a Chickasaw Native American town known as Chickasaw Old Fields. Today, you can still find two ancient mounds and traces of old homes on the island.

Right next to Hobbs Island is a place called Ditto Landing. This spot used to be where people crossed the Tennessee River using a ferry boat. During the Creek War, a famous general named Andrew Jackson and his army crossed the river here. The army included Davy Crockett, and they were on their way to fight a group called the Red Sticks.

A post office served the Hobbs Island community for many years. It operated from 1850 until 1929.

Where is Hobbs Island?

Even though it's called Hobbs Island, the community itself is not actually on the island. Instead, it is located to the east of the island and the Tennessee River.
