Hoffman is a small town located in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma, in the United States. In 2020, about 81 people lived there. It's a quiet place with a unique history.
History of Hoffman
Hoffman started as a settlement before December 18, 1905. That's when its first post office was opened. At first, it was part of McIntosh County. But in 1918, it became part of Okmulgee County.
The exact reason for the town's name isn't fully known. Some say it was named after W. Hoffman. He was a vice president of the Missouri, Oklahoma and Gulf Railway. Others believe it was named after Roy V. Hoffman, a lawyer from Oklahoma City.
When Oklahoma became a state in 1907, Hoffman had 344 residents. The population dropped to 307 in 1910. It then grew to its largest size of 432 people in 1940.
